Rosebank Millennium Green

The Rosebank Millennium Green was established by a voluntary trust in 2000 and continues to be maintained by volunteers. It represents the creation of green space from a previous brownfield site (demolished terraced housing).

There are more than 5 acres of greenery, covering the escarpment between Rosebank Road at the top and the Rillbank and Rosebank estates below. Within this space there are: trees, grass and paths, a rose garden and an orchard area, a graffiti wall, a stone circle and other carvings, including a memorial to the civilian victims of the second world war.

Three sets of Victorian steps were laid down in the 1860s as part of the development of the Belle Vue estate fields. Two of them survive on the Rosebank in the updated Millennium Way and the Rosebank School Steps, which retain the original Victorian ironwork on the top half. There are also other paths of varying steepness offering opportunities for exercise and green walks.

The Rosebank is a focus for outdoor activity for local people and the nearby Rosebank Primary School and has important health, wellbeing and biodiversity benefits. This valuable community space also retains its function as a pathway between the upper and lower levels linking Belle Vue Road and Rosebank Road to the Woodsley Road Local Centre, the Hyde Park Surgery and the Grand Mosque.
