Post war Estates

The Kelso Gardens estate was developed in the 1930s on the site of allotments.  The Marlboroughs tower block and maisonettes were built in the 1960s. The 1960s and 70s also saw the demolition of many of the smaller Victorian terraces and replacement by small council housing estates and private housing blocks: the Consorts, Kendals, Rillbanks, Rosebanks and Willows estates. Terraced housing between Belle Vue Road and Westfield Road was replaced in the early 2000s by small apartment blocks and modern houses built by Leeds Federated Housing Association.

The post war estates provide housing suitable for family type households, but are not able to meet the demand expressed in a recent survey of housing among the parents of Rosebank Primary School, which showed up the need for family sized accommodation of 3, 4 or more bedrooms.

There is an opportunity to improve the environmental quality of the estates, their layout, shared spaces and connections with surrounding developments.
