The Heritage Area joins three existing conservation areas and extends the boundaries to reflect the special architectural and historic interest of Little Woodhouse. The Heritage Area will take in the Rosebank Millennium Green and the Victorian terraces of Belle Vue Road, Victoria and Consort Terraces, the Kelso and Woodsley Roads, the 1930s development at Kelso Gardens and early twentieth century Clarendon Quarter (previously St Michaels College). An extension south of Woodhouse Square will include Joseph’s Well, Barran’s 1887 ready to wear textile mill converted to offices.

The draft Little Woodhouse Neighbourhood Plan policies require developments to respect the heritage character of the mainly Georgian and Victorian housing which gives the area its distinctive quality: the views and vistas across the Aire valley, the listed buildings and layout of terraces and villas, stone and brick materials and architectural features and the natural stone setts and flags of the streets and pavements.
The Plan also identifies ‘Non Designated Heritage Assets‘ (of local significance but not listed or in a conservation area): new developments should show how the historic significance of the asset is embedded in design.
